Return of the Nomad

Filed under: Uncategorized — Becky @ 10:28 am

I have decided that in a past life I was a gypsy, or something. I have been back for less than a week, and already contemplating where I may go next. I know, I know, I am officially “out there.”

Needless to say, there was tons of paperwork to rustle through when I got, back. Also, adjusting to air conditioning is harder than one would think. I feel freeze dried. The nice thing about Texas is the heat. Really, I know. I like the heat. It is always warm in the tropics, and the summer here may be hotter and drier, but still, it is nice and hot.

I was offered my first job in archaeology this week. It is based on a project basis. It is so exciting to be working in Texas!

As I wade through my pictures, I will start posting on the flicker site that has been linked here before. Stay tuned.

Count Down

In the last week of my analysis, I am pleased to say that things are coming together. I have one clear area of a single event that appears to have happened on bedrock. The problematic deposit still needs to be defined, but that is what the thesis is about!

Most of the students and field school directors have left, and those of us still here are wrapping up, making plans for next year, and getting ready for the flight home. I will be packing light, as there are no containers with liquids allowed in carry-on luggage, and well, I hate to pack stuff that may leak.

For those of you at home, I have tons of pictures, stories, and a few souveniers. And big plans for the future!

Cahal Pech

After succumbing to a summer time cold, I was ready for some time outside of the lab. I went up to the site where Texas State is holding their field school, and helped screen for ceramics, bone, lithics and shell. They are wrapping up next week, so I may lend a hand again.

I have been refitting vessels from two seperate lots, and it seems to be coming along pretty well. There is still quite a bit to do, but I have at least 8 partial vessels and probably some more fragmentary ones. I have narrowed down which concentration that I will get my carbon testing done from, and have the faunal analysis done. Two more weeks!
